25th Anniversary FAQ

The Ohio State Reformatory is the only site that has admission for self-guided tours. Other sites are free or donations are appreciated. Check Tickets for other specific events that weekend.

Click here to view all tickets for the movie screening- SOLD OUT; actor autographs; The Exclusive Shawshank Reception- SOLD OUT.  You can choose to buy tickets to the Events (movie screening, actor autograph session, Shawshank Reception) and/or visit the filming sites and attend free events during the weekend.  It’s up to you!  All events are à la carte.

You may visit as many of the 16 filming sites along The Shawshank Trail as you want. Keep in mind, the 16th filming site (Zihuatanejo) is located in St. Croix, US Virgin Islands.

That’s up to you! The trail is a self-guided driving tour and each filming site has a Schedule of Events listed for the Anniversary weekend.

Yes! We encourage you to share your photos/video on social media and recommend using #Shawshank25. All photos and video are for personal use only and cannot be sold.

*Please check with the Ohio State Reformatory staff before taking photos or video during actor autograph session.

Do you love The Shawshank Redemption movie? Do you want to stand in the same locations as Andy, Red, Warden North and Heywood? Do you want to interact with other fans from around the world? Then YOU should attend!

Filming sites do welcome children with adults. All tours at the Ohio State Reformatory are not recommended for children under 7 years of age. The Shawshank Redemption movie shown at the Renaissance Theatre is rated R.

Comfortable walking shoes, as most sites require walking, standing, and stairs. The Exclusive Shawshank Reception at the Ohio State Reformatory is suggested 40’s and 50’s attire, but not required.

The Anniversary is held rain or shine.
