The Ohio State Reformatory is pleased to announce, “Return to Shawshank: An Intimate Evening with the Stars”. On Saturday, August 10th, 2024 at 4:30pm, Ben Mankiewicz, Host of Turner Classic Movies will moderate a discussion panel including Frank Darabont, Bob Gunton, William Sadler, Clancy Brown, Gil Bellows, and Mark Rolston, as they return to Shawshank State Prison to share all their fondest stories and memories with their fans. Guests will be able to sit where the mess hall scenes were filmed, surrounded on both sides by the cell blocks, for a truly immersive evening. Only 100 tickets are available for this once in a lifetime experience.
Please note – this is not an interactive event. Guests at the Reformatory will be part of the live viewing audience for this cast discussion, but there will not be autographs, photo ops, or the opportunity to meet the cast afterwards. The event will run from 4:30pm-5:30pm and the Reformatory will close for the day immediately following the conclusion of the event.
The 100 seats at The Ohio State Reformatory are sold BUT – You can still watch in real-time during a live cast at the Renaissance Theatre, where the film first premiered in 1994. Tickets to the live cast are through the Renaissance Theatre. Seats are still available at the Renaissance.

The Shawshank Redemption 30th Anniversary – Background Actors Panel
Background actors played a huge role in “The Shawshank Redemption” movie. Could you imagine the Yard scene with no other prisoners, the grocery store with no shoppers, or the bank with no customers? There were over 180 credited and uncredited actors in the film, many of whom were local folks. To this day, most people in town know someone who was in the film.
The Background Actors panel will be returning this year for #Shawshank30. Local Moderator Mark Sebastian returns to help you get insider information from those who were there and hear firsthand stories about their experiences on set. This panel will include a lively Q&A session where you can ask burning questions about what it was like to work around the amazing cast, what they did during their downtime, and hear anecdotes like one actor jokingly saying they were paid in cigarettes and suntan lotion. Thursday, August 8, 2024 Starts at Dusk (8:45pm) – This Outdoor Film Screening of The Shawshank Redemption will take place on the green space of the Imagination Plaza at the Renaissance Theatre. Patrons are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy this screening under the stars. Concessions will be available for purchase.
